description

Reality is never enough. It is constantly slipping away, into the past, leaving behind a series of images, symbols, signs, and myths in our memory.

We have a complicated relationship with time. We spend it, fear it, rush it, try to stop it. We feel it, yet often fail to notice it. And yet it is time that ultimately frees us from the past, giving us both the ability to remember and the ability to forget.

Oblivion frees us for new experience. It allows reality to be reinterpreted, opens space for imagination, and gives rise to creativity.

In the labyrinth of everyday life — among habits, inevitabilities, rituals, fears, and joys — oblivion allows us to remember our responsibility to the future, to bear witness to our own existence, and to preserve hope.

In the FW26 edition, we asked our contributors — JACK ANTONOFF, MAGGI HAMBLING, NOGA EREZ, CAMILLE COTTIN, ELIZAVETA PORODINA, DON LETTS, FUTURA, ALEXANDRE DE BETAK, NICK BOSTROM, FLORENTINA HOLZINGER, SAGE ESSESSER, and ALMA ALLEN — “What would you save from oblivion?” Their answers reminded us that what we choose to remember shapes what comes next.
