A PUBLISHER and PACO RABANNE are delighted to announce NUDES CURATED BY JULIEN DOSSENA, the first in an exclusive series of small-run print publications complimentary to A MAGAZINE curated by and dedicated to capturing iconic moments in our global cultural calendar. Inviting a new creative persona to curate each issue, these site-specific documents each function as a 100-page magazine to support events, exhibitions, and anniversaries – from art fairs to cultural festivals, biennales, and photography exhibitions.
NUDES CURATED BY JULIEN DOSSENA celebrates the 31st International Festival of Fashion and Photography in Hyères, France, where Dossena presides over the fashion jury in his role as Creative Director of the maison Paco Rabanne. Initiated by Editor in Chief Dan Thawley, the project takes inspiration from the monograph ‘Nues’ by Jean Clemmer (1969), a rare photography book published by Pierre Belfond Editions that celebrates the female nude and the iconic Paco Rabanne styles of the time.
NUDES CURATED BY JULIEN DOSSENA unfolds as a long form photography portfolio shot by Spanish photographer Coco Capitàn and styled by Elodie David in the grounds of the Villa Noailles, the 1920s modernist maison d’hiver designed by Robert Mallet-Stevens for Charles and Marie-Laure de Noailles perched high above the town of Hyères on the French Riviera. Capitàn’s photographs feature top models Emmy Rappe, Lena Hardt, and Nirvana Naves wearing contemporary and archive pieces from Paco Rabanne. An in-depth dialogue between Julien Dossena and Dan Thawley on the subject of modern day nudity and eroticism accompanies the images, alongside a poetic series of Coco Capitàn Writings scattered throughout.
