Based Istanbul

Based Istanbul is a self-titled, bilingual (English & Turkish), biannual magazine rooted in
Istanbul and oriented toward the world.
For the past ten years, Based Istanbul has built a sustained base for the city’s creative
ecosystem, foregrounding both established and emerging voices from Turkey and
beyond. Not as trend subjects, but as cultural actors shaping their time.
Each issue is constructed around a distinct theme, creating a focused editorial framework
rather than a collection of unrelated features. Within this structure, fashion, art,
architecture, design, film and music are treated not as isolated categories but as
intersecting disciplines. Based Istanbul approaches culture as a continuum where
aesthetics, intellect and identity meet.
The editorial direction privileges character over algorithm, conviction over visibility, and
long-term cultural resonance over seasonal relevance. Every issue functions as a
considered document of its moment. A deliberate archive of who defined it and how they
chose to speak within it.
Based Istanbul does not translate Istanbul for the world. It situates it within it.
